We're nearing the holiday season and that means it's time to play the hosting game. We all know how stressful it can be to have friends and family over and trying to make sure everything is perfect so everyone has a good time. I'm BIG on planning so making sure I have everything I could possibly need is a must. Check out my top must-haves when hosting:
Enhance your space with greenery. Have a mantel? Greenery. Have a console table? Greenery. Have space above the cabinets? You know where this is going....greenery. It gives the space a natural feel.
Holiday scents are the perfect way to welcome your guests. You could bake cookies before people come over, put a simmer pot on, or just light/melt a candle. You want subtle scents like cinnamon, cedar, or balsam to make the space feel more inviting.
Lighting is a big factor in a space. If you want the space to feel relaxed, don't us the harsh overhead lights. Dim your lights down, change bulbs to warmer tones, add candles, luminaires, or even holiday lights to the room.
The first impression of your home will be when the guests walk up to your door. Make your entry area inviting and not just the room right by the entrance, but the porch area too. You can add a festive wreath or welcome sign. For holiday hosting, put some Christmas lights on your home for a more cheery look.
Get the spare bedroom ready. If you have guests actually staying in your home, make sure their room has a good feel to it. Put fresh linens on the bed, fluff the pillows, add a throw, and slap some simple holiday decor on the side tables. I typically leave a spread with towels, washcloths (people don't like to look through cabinets and closets to find these) , and to be a little over the top, I add their favorite snack/candy/flowers.
These are just some of my top tips for hosting others!
